How Higher or Lower works
Higher or Lower is a classic single-player card game of nerve and probability. A card is dealt face up and your job is to predict whether the next card from the deck will be higher or lower in value. Guess correctly and your streak grows; one wrong call ends the run. There's no sign-up and nothing to download — just tap Higher or Lower and see how long a streak you can build.
It's quick to learn but surprisingly tense once your streak climbs into double figures. Because the deck shrinks as you play, a sharp player also keeps track of which cards have already gone, nudging the odds in their favour.
Card rankings and the tie rule
Cards are ranked by face value from low to high: 2 is the lowest, followed by 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, then the Jack, Queen and King, with the Ace as the highest card. Suits (♠ ♥ ♦ ♣) don't matter here — only the rank counts.
If the next card has exactly the same value as the current one, it's a tie. In this version a tie is a free pass: your streak neither rises nor resets, and you simply move on to the next card.
Higher or Lower strategy
The smart play is all about the current card. A low card like a 2 or 3 means almost every remaining card is higher, so guess higher. A high card such as a King or Ace means most cards are lower. The trickiest cards sit in the middle — around 7, 8 or 9 — where higher and lower are close to a coin flip.
The table below shows the chances for the first card from a fresh 52-card deck. As cards are dealt the real odds shift, so a player who remembers what has already gone can do even better.
